Perched atop Mount Saint James in Worcester, Massachusetts, the College of the Holy Cross is known for its historic role in social justice movements, its commitment to liberal arts education, and its innovative approach to sustainability. Recognized by the Princeton Review for its ecological-related policies, practices, and programs for the 12th consecutive year, Holy Cross remains a leader in integrating environmental responsibility into campus life. The college also boasts notable alumni like Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading expert on infectious diseases and an advocate for science-driven solutions.
This fall, RCC Assistant Director of Campus and Civic Engagement Diego Tovar visited Holy Cross to strengthen connections and explore the intersection of climate action and community engagement. He was welcomed by Dr. Holly Moulton, Assistant Professor of Gender and Climate Justice, Environmental Perspectives, and Environmental Justice in the Department of Environmental Studies. Their discussion focused on potential collaborations to advance effective environmental justice initiatives, aligning RCC’s mission with Holy Cross’s commitment to interdisciplinary activism and solutions.
Diego delivered a guest lecture to Dr. Moulton’s Environmental Justice class, emphasizing the role of community engagement in shaping effective environmental policy. The lecture highlighted the importance of inclusive policies that amplify the voices of those most impacted by climate issues. Students were eager to explore ways to turn their passion for sustainability into tangible action, resonating with RCC’s goal of nurturing grassroots leadership. This led to conversations on how students can get involved through the RCC’s National Environment Leadership Fellowship (NELF).
From its historic Dinand Library, which houses some of the oldest collections of rare books in New England, to its nationally-recognized environmental studies program. Holy Cross continues to advance climate and social justice efforts. The Rachel Carson Council is proud to welcome the College of the Holy Cross as the 72nd member of the Rachel Carson Campus Network (RCCN), marking a collaborative step forward in driving meaningful environmental progress and empowering the next generation of leaders.
